In Brittany, the Town of Ys.
Telling the story of the Town of Ys, King Gradlon and Princess Dahut in a fantasy feature-film in Welsh and in Breton?
That is the Kan Ar Mor film project, carried out by a group of Breton and Welsh students passionate about Celtic languages and culture. Shot partly in Aberystwyth, a Welsh city famous for harboring a mysterious mermaid, and partly in the Bay of Douarnenez in Brittany, as close as possible to the mythical Town of Ys that was engulfed under the eyes of Saint Winwaloe by the ocean’s wrath. The film required two weeks of shooting and more than fourteen months of post-production.
Kan Ar Mor tells the story of Leon, a young Breton investigating with his friends the mysterious disappearance of a Welsh sailor: Tom Glenmor. This investigation will lead them to the borders of the Kingdom of the Dead, in the heart of the oldest Celtic legend.
